ABILITY IN DISABILITY: A CASE OF KANYA SESSER

Abandoned on the steps of a Buddhist temple just days after she was born because she had been born without legs, Kanya Sesser went on to defy expectations and build an extraordinary life as a model, actress, adaptive athlete, and motivational speaker.

Kanya spent her early childhood in a local hospital before being adopted at the age of five by an American family who raised her in Oregon. From a young age, she developed remarkable independence and learned to move around using her hands, embracing the motto: “No legs, no limits.”

Rather than relying on a traditional wheelchair in her everyday life, Kanya discovered that a skateboard gave her greater freedom and mobility. Over time, the skateboard became almost an extension of her body, allowing her to move confidently and independently.

As she grew older, Kanya began breaking stereotypes on an international level. She achieved a Guinness World Record for performing a handstand while riding a moving skateboard, demonstrating extraordinary balance, strength, and determination.

Her achievements also took her into the world of fashion and entertainment. She became a prominent figure during New York Fashion Week and appeared in advertising campaigns for major brands, including Adidas.

Kanya also developed a career in Hollywood as an actress and action performer, appearing in productions such as The Walking Dead and Hawaii Five-0. Her work has helped challenge traditional ideas about disability and representation in the entertainment industry.

Today, Kanya lives in Los Angeles and uses her experience in sports, modeling, and entertainment to inspire audiences around the world. Through motivational speaking and public appearances, she promotes inclusion and encourages people to look beyond limitations.

Her story is a powerful reminder that circumstances do not have to define a person's future. Kanya Sesser continues to show that sometimes the greatest barriers are not physical—they are the limits we place on ourselves.
