World Teachers’ Day: Oyewumi Celebrates Teachers, Says No Nation Can Rise Above Their Quality

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Akogun Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi, has celebrated teachers across Osun State and Nigeria, describing them as the foundation upon which every enduring society is built and the architects who shape the minds, character and aspirations of future generations. He stated this in a goodwill message to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration.

Senator Oyewumi saluted the sacrifices, patience and unwavering commitment of educators who continue to nurture talents, impart knowledge and build the human capital upon which the nation’s future depends. He noted that the popular maxim, “If you can read and write, thank your teacher,” aptly captures the enduring impact of the profession and its importance to individual and national development.

According to him, “No nation can rise above the quality of its teachers,” stressing that the profession serves as the moral compass and intellectual foundation of every great society. He noted that the influence of educators extends far beyond the classroom, as they shape character, inspire ambition and prepare successive generations to contribute meaningfully to society.

The Deputy Minority Leader commended the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke for prioritising professional development and strengthening the capacity of educators across Osun State. He stressed that continuous training and capacity building are essential to equipping them with the knowledge, skills and tools required to meet the changing demands of modern education.

Reflecting on the 2026 World Teachers’ Day theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” Senator Oyewumi emphasised the importance of partnership, teamwork and shared responsibility in advancing education. He noted that sustainable progress requires collaboration among educators, policymakers, parents, communities and other stakeholders.

He further observed that collaboration promotes creativity, knowledge-sharing and improved learning outcomes, while stronger partnerships can create a more inclusive and effective education system. He therefore called for greater recognition, continuous professional development, improved working conditions and opportunities for career advancement, stressing that investment in educators is ultimately an investment in the future of society.

Senator Oyewumi congratulated teachers across Osun State and Nigeria on the celebration and urged them to remain committed to their noble calling despite the challenges confronting the profession. He prayed for renewed strength, wisdom, fulfilment and greater recognition for their invaluable service, noting that their daily efforts continue to shape lives, strengthen communities and prepare the leaders of tomorrow.
