In May 2001, President Obasanjo was scheduled to make a 3-day working trip to Japan.
He drove to the airport, where it is reported that he waited for roughly three hours.
Why? His Vice President Atiku was airborne and unable to land because of bad weather. Obasanjo waited until his VP touched down before he boarded his own flight to Japan.
This was in keeping with Nigerian state protocol and national security convention that the President and Vice President should never be out of the country at the same time.
Seems like a different era, doesn’t it?
